Bartlesville was only 11 years old in 1908. The town was on the verge of its big oil boom and the Bartlesville Commercial Club was focused on promoting the young town and attracting businesses. It used the slogan, "We can. We will. Bartlesville." as a way to build up community spirit. The slogan was worn on the front of the jerseys of the Bartlesville Boosters baseball team.
